SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Stories – they bring back memories of childhood and innocence. Each year, Abhinaya Dance Company showcases the burgeoning talent of the students of the school’s Bharatanatyam training program. This year, company dancer and choreographer Malavika Kumar has conjured up a thematic presentation. “Sons of Shiva” is a garland of stories about the three sons of the Hindu God Shiva – Ganesha and Muruga (sons of Shiva and Parvati), and Ayyappa, (son of Shiva and Mohini, an avatar of Vishnu). The concert honors Shiva and Shakti, the Universal Father and Mother.
Over 80 ABHINAYA students will be performing. The youngest artist is eight years old, with two years of rigorous training under her belt. Advanced students with over eight years of dance instruction, preparing for their arangetram (debut performance), will be dancing alongside such emerging talent.
ABHINAYA has a strong history of presenting a compelling narrative with an engaging theme, passionate students and teachers all working for months to bring you a single production, such as this season’s – SONS OF SHIVA.
