Abhinaya Dance Company was founded in 1980 by Mythili Kumar (Artistic Director) and is one of the leading Bharatanatyam institutions in the Bay Area. Today, the company consists of a teaching institution and a performing ensemble. Who are we looking for?
We are looking for post graduate Bharatanatyam dancers to join our company for our fall 2022 and spring 2023 performances. We are looking for dancers who have studied the Pandanallur, Thanjavur, or Kalakshetra styles, completed their arangetram, and are actively pursuing the art form on a full time or part time basis. An initial evaluation will be made by the artistic director and dancers may be requested to agree to align their style to that of the company for the performances.
When/where are rehearsals?
Rehearsals are typically on Tuesday evenings 8 – 10pm and Saturday mornings 9 – 11am in the Cupertino/Los Gatos area. Not all rehearsals are mandatory; however, rehearsals the week prior to the shows are mandatory (Would be hard to produce a good show otherwise). We ask that you be available for 75% of the rehearsal dates, and if that is not possible, that you let us know your schedule well in advance so we can plan accordingly.
A stipend will be offered for artists selected to participate in company productions.
