Summer Intensive Workshop with Artistic Director Mythili Kumar

Intensive dance workshop for dancers who have studied Bharatanatyam for at least 5 years.

OBJECTIVES

• Body Conditioning – increase flexibility and strength using exercises derived from yoga and martial arts
• Bharatanatyam Fundamentals – deepen the training in the fundamentals of the art
  • nritta – learn rhythmic sequences through a Jatiswaram and Thillana
  • abhinaya – improve expression by learning a Padam
  • nattuvangam – learn to vocalize rhythms for the art of conducting
  • theory – learn dance theory from Abhinaya Darpana
  • natya – improve acting and characterization using episodes from the Ramayana
• Music – learn basic Carnatic music concepts in Bharatanatyam pieces
• History – learn about the history and development of Bharatanatyam
• Performance – provide a performance opportunity to develop choreographic and performance skills
